It is my great pleasure to invite you to the 4th APIS Forum,
which will be hosted by the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB) on August 28–29, 2025, at the Grand Hyatt Jeju, S. Korea.
GloPID-R (Global Research Collaboration for Infectious Disease Preparedness) is an international alliance of funding organizations committed
to supporting research for pandemic preparedness and to enable rapid responses within 48 hours of an outbreak.
Its mission is to strengthen preparedness and accelerate research response to infectious disease emergencies.
As a member of GloPID-R, GloPID-R Korea proposed the establishment of a regional response mechanism through an Asia-Pacific Hub in 2021.
In 2022, KRIBB was officially designated as the host institution of the GloPID-R Asia-Pacific Hub.
With support from the Ministry of Science and ICT of the S. Korea,
KRIBB has been developing APIS (Asia-Pacific Infectious Disease Shield) as a platform for international collaboration in Asia and Pacific region.
Following the APIS Kick-off Conference in November 2022, the 2nd APIS Forum in September 2023, and the 3rd APIS Forum in November 2024, we are now proud to host
the 4th APIS Forum in August 2025.
APIS represents the first international collaboration network led by S. Korea, aimed at enabling rapid and sustainable infectious disease responses
in the Asia-Pacific region.
Our goal is to enhance international cooperation among scientists and policy makers to effectively prepare for and respond to new and
re-emerging infectious diseases, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in this region, through the development of regional cooperation mechanisms.
Building on the experience gained through previous APIS operations, KRIBB has newly launched APIS 2.0 this year.
The 4th APIS Forum will bring together national and nonprofit research funding agencies, as well as government-affiliated researchers from APIS partner countries,
to discuss the theme:
“Building a Sustainable Funding Ecosystem to Strengthen Infectious Disease Response Capacity in the Asia-Pacific Region under Funding Contraction Condition”
The forum will examine current trends in infectious disease research funding and will particularly focus on developing robust funding strategies for LMICs in the Asia-Pacific,
in response to significant recent cuts in infectious disease research budgets in the U.S. and EU.
We sincerely look forward to welcoming you this August on the beautiful island, Jeju, S. Korea.
Through this 4th APIS Forum, we hope to strengthen the capacity of Asia-Pacific nations to prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases by building a stable
and sustainable funding ecosystem.
Warm regards,
Choong-Min Ryu
